This idea of a ‘sprinkle’ is definitely something new for me. As my mom calls it, its very Millennial. Haha. For those that are unfamiliar, it’s just a mini baby shower for baby number 2. There’s no registry and it’s typically just small gifts or diapers. With Noah, we had a traditional baby shower with lots of family and friends and I had never intended on having anything for our next baby. But some of my friends thought it would be a good idea to get together, especially since I may not see some of them before she’s born (and maybe a while after that!). I didn’t want to make it big deal, but thought diapers are always needed and easy for anyone to pick up. Plus the love of football in our house is strong, why not incorporate the two?! Girls can like football too. 🙂
We had simple decorations, nothing crazy. I found these small balloons and other football themed decor from Party City.
For the food, we went with the Sunday Funday theme. Nothing better than comforting, warm food on a fall day. We had chili, corn casserole, I made uniform cookies and served Costco Mac N’ Cheese (if you haven’t tried it, OMG, HIGHLY recommend picking some up this winter).
For the chili, Manny actually cooked it. It’s one of his specialties. It’s a recipe he has made before, but there is a lot that goes into, takes a little while, and has a little kick to it. It was time to take out our Crock Pot (are the only ones that still use it? I love ours!) We served it in Chicago Bears helmet bowl, which I couldn’t find a link to. But I did find these cute serving bowls that would be perfect for a football themed party. The recipe is below.
This recipe has a little kick with chipotle peppers and hot italian sausage. Great for the cold months ahead.
Cook sausage and ground beef in a large pot over medium high heat until browned. Drain off the grease and add seasonings. Cook until fully covered and add in garlic and onion. Add the can of beer. Cook until onion has softened.
Stir in the tomatoes, sauce, kidney beans, chipotle peppers, salt and pepper (to taste). Bring to a simmer.
Pour into the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours. Stir in the tomato paste an hour before the chili is done.
As a side dish, we served corn casserole, which I could probably eat everyday of my life. It’s one of those dishes that is great to serve at parties because it’s vegetarian and it’s such a crowd pleaser. The recipe is below.
An easy casserole that’s always a crowd pleaser at parties.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and lightly grease a 9×9 inch baking dish.
In a medium bowl, combine butter, eggs, corn bread mix, whole and creamed corn, Splenda and sour cream. Add mixture to baking dish.
Bake for 45 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the top is golden brown.
I prefer it served warm, but it can be kept cool until ready to be served.
For dessert, my friend brought a football cookie from Insomnia Cookies and it was DELICIOUS. Warm and gooey inside. It went right away!
I also did attempt to make uniform sugar cookies using this Uniform Cookie Cutter. I am honestly not much of a baker until it’s fall, then something comes over me. They tasted great, but not as ‘professional’ as I wanted them. I didn’t grab any photos of them, although they were in my instastory. I used this recipe with cream cheese frosting and decorated them pink dye and sprinkles.
We had so much showering our baby girl and watching football (although our team did lose :(. There’s nothing like getting your friends together in your home with lots of kids and food, it’s just the best.
As always, thanks for following along and you can sign up for weekly emails here and on Instagram.
Until next time,
